Stargazing Breaks in the Northumberland National Park
We are gold star quality - the International Dark Sky Association has given Northumberland Dark Sky Park its highest possible rating for the starry skies overhead. The park is Europe's biggest area of protected night sky which means future generations will be able to cherish and enjoy the spectacular views.
Enthusiasts and beginner astronomers alike can enjoy the panoramic night skies at Blacksmith's Cottage by booking a 3 or 4 night autumn/winter stargazing break (September till mid March). Guests can enjoy a stargazing experience with our stargazing kit - computer with Stellarium download, 10 x 50 binoculars with mount, head torches, reference books, deck chairs - with rugs, hats, scarves, gloves and 'hot chocolate' to keep the cold at bay!
All breaks are given the option of booking a beginners 'guide around the dark skies' session, charged at £10 per adult (children up to10yrs free) bookable on the evening when there are favourable weather conditions. This session views the moon and planets through a telescope (subject to what is available on the stargazing calendar), leaving you to enjoy the dark skies into the early hours.
Intermediate and advanced stargazers with/without their own telescope can have a bespoke group stargazing evening based at the cottage. These evenings need to be booked in advance with our local astronomer and are charged at £75 for a 2hr session with an astro photography option.
Only one winter break booking per week allows some flexibility with stargazing bookings, giving you the best chance for clear skies!
Customer Service is a priority at Blacksmith's Cottage that is why we offer tailor-made holidays to suit your holiday plans. Cosy Midweek and Weekend 3 or 4 night off-peak breaks available.
